Clyde Weems: Coach, Mentor, and Counselor
Clyde Weems has been a highly effective youth advocate, empowering youth through education, sports, self-empowerment, counseling, and mentoring. Overcoming the challenges of the inner-city, he’s used his experiences to connect with young people in some of the most under served populations of New York and Los Angeles. By offering constructive and safe outlets and promoting a drug-free healthy active lifestyle, Clyde encourages youth to dream big and accomplish their goals.
In 2006, in an effort to help bridge the achievement gap hindering poor under served young men in the inner-city, Clyde developed the P.R.E.P.S program (Providing Recreation Empowerment Purpose Self-Esteem) through The Children’s Aid Society-Dunlevy Milbank Center in Harlem, New York. P.R.E.P.S participants make a commitment to stay drug-free and serve as positive active members of the community while maintaining high academic standards. P.R.E.P.S. has seen much success with close to 70% of the participants matriculating into college and serving as leaders and mentors in their community.

Clyde has received numerous awards and accolades for his community service and youth advocacy as well as his personal accomplishments in sports and basketball. As a youth Clyde suffered from low self-esteem, therefore he learned to use sports as a tool in building his confidence. In junior college, he set a school record in track and field by running a 10.6 in the 100 meters dash. Previous to this achievement, Clyde was an accomplished basketball player in high school earning all-league honors and later while in college was named preseason Small College All-American. Not only did Clyde achieve great feats on the court, he also overcame his dyslexia to earn his Bachelors degree in Communications. The accumulation of these events provided him the opportunity to receive a contract to play professional basketball abroad, which he later received the Most Notable Player Award.
